What TPO roofing is
Thermoplastic polyolefin, or TPO, is a single-ply roofing membrane used on compatible low-slope assemblies. Sheets are joined using heat-welded seams. Membrane selection, attachment, insulation and detailing must be considered together; the sheet alone is not a complete roof specification.
What a proposal should explain
Ask for the membrane product and thickness, attachment method, insulation or cover board, edge details and treatment of every penetration. Discuss how skylights, equipment curbs and drains will connect to the system. Clarify which existing materials will be removed and how concealed moisture or damaged decking will be handled.
Drainage still matters
A light-colored membrane does not correct the slope of the roof. If water collects in particular areas, ask what causes the condition and how it will be addressed. Drain and scupper locations, insulation design and roof geometry may affect the plan. Compare the complete proposed assembly rather than the membrane color alone.
Repairs and compatibility
Repairs should use methods and materials suitable for the existing membrane. Age, surface condition and contamination can affect the repair approach. Do not assume an all-purpose sealant is compatible. Ask whether the surrounding roof remains serviceable and whether the repair is a short-term measure or a defined permanent scope.
Warranty and maintenance questions
Ask who issues the warranty, what assembly qualifies, which details are covered and what maintenance is required.
