“Asphalt shingles” and “composition shingles” commonly describe the same roofing category. Shingles provide the visible weather-facing surface, but their performance also depends on the deck, underlayment, flashing, fastening and the suitability of the roof slope. A shingle selection should be part of a complete roofing plan.
Compare profiles, color and compatibility
Ask to see the exact product proposed for your home and discuss how its color and profile will look beside the walls, trim and surrounding roof areas. Consider any HOA review before ordering. Roof slope and manufacturer instructions determine where a product can be used; low-slope additions may require a different system.
Look closely at transitions
Chimneys, skylights, vent pipes, valleys and roof-to-wall intersections deserve their own details in the estimate. Ask whether flashing will be replaced or reused and why. Ventilation planning should account for the actual attic assembly, available intake and exhaust, and any existing moisture concerns.
Understand the GAF warranty options
Able Roofing’s GAF Master Elite certification provides access to enhanced warranty options for qualifying GAF systems. Ask for the warranty name, required accessories, coverage and exclusions in writing. Enhanced coverage is not automatic simply because GAF shingles are installed.
Repairing an existing shingle roof
An isolated damaged area may be repairable when the surrounding material remains serviceable. Matching aged roofing can be difficult, and brittle materials can limit a repair. If deterioration is widespread, compare a whole-roof solution. Keep records of product choices and completed work for future maintenance.
